Homeward bound

Aaron left Hawaii last Friday and is on his way to Camp Pendleton. He said the went on a six hour hike with friends in the foothills of Hilo and got some great pix. The ship should arrive on July 31. I don't know who's more excited - him or us. They have to offload equipment at Camp Pendleton before continuing on to San Diego. He'll stay with the equipment. He says they have a month's worth of work in August to do before they are released for post-deployment leave in September. He'll be home from Sept 7th to the 13th.

He said he had a "few" pix to upload when he got back stateside. At last count, he had about 820 taken over the last seven months! It may take a few minutes to upload them all, LOL. I got his Blackjack II phone turned back on and he's been looking at potential replacement phones now that his contract is up for renewal. He has plenty of choices, for sure!

He drooled over an iMac PC at the Navy Exchange in Pearl Harbor with a 24" screen. He'll probably get one of those. Great choice in my opinion.

Jan's in Hattiesburg and points south (Gulfport) this weekend. She's due back this afternoon. Gotta pick her up at AmTrak at 3:00p.

The backyard looks great now that we've eliminated four oversized/dead trees and trimmed up the remaining trees. Grass will probably grow like crazy now that there's ample sunlight getting through.

I went to bed early last night and have been up since 5:30 this morning watching old movies, drinking my morning Joe, & reading the Sunday paper. I got up before sun up and the dogs looked at me like "Hey, Dude, in case you haven't noticed, it's still DARK outside." LOL.

I love watching old movies from the 30s, 40s, and 50s. Especially musicals and gangster movies. They don't make 'em like they used to. Today, they rely too much on special effects, although there are many GOOD actors now: Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp, and Tom Hanks to name a few. The new thing now is 3-D. Only one problem with that: my damaged right eye doesn't give me any appreciable depth perception and I get left in the dust with the 3-D effects. Oh well. C'est la vie...
